VIDEO: Suicide car bomb hits north Baghdad, kills over 14

On Monday, a suicide car bomb targeted a security checkpoint in the northwest of Baaquba City, north of Baghdad, killing at least 14.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – On Monday, a suicide car bomb targeted a security checkpoint in the northwest of Baaquba City, north of Baghdad, killing at least 14.

A suicide car bomber targeted the security checkpoint of Khalis town in the north of Baghdad. The explosion took place when many vehicles were waiting in line at the security checkpoint to enter the area.

Following the blast, ambulances rushed to the scene and transferred the wounded people to the nearest hospitals.

The explosion had killed at least 14 people and wounded several others, according to hospital and security sources.

An eyewitness reported that most of the people were killed inside their cars while waiting at the security point.

Hospital sources stated that the death toll might rise as the wounds of some of the injured people are critical.

On Sunday, another suicide bomber wrapped himself with an explosive vest and directed his attack at security forces at the entrance of the Kadhimiya neighborhood, northwest of Baghdad.

The attack killed at least 11 and wounded over 20 people. Following the blast, the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the violence.

The Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi had been under pressure by protestors and the people of Baghdad, especially after the recent terrorist attacks.

People complain that the security has failed to provide safety and stability to the residents.

On July 3, a large truck packed with explosive devices blew up in the busy street of Karada in Baghdad, killing and wounding hundreds of people.

According to the Ministry of Health, 292 people lost their lives, and over 200 people were injured.

The Karada explosion is considered one of the deadliest attacks in Iraq since the liberation of the country in 2003.
