ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi security forces killed two Islamic State (IS) suicide bombers and arrested another one in east Mosul in separate incidents on Thursday.

Late in the night, Iraqi security forces killed two IS suicide bombers wearing police uniform trying to detonate their explosive vests in a crowded marked in the Nabi Yunis neighborhood in east Mosul.

Photos obtained by Kurdistan24 show the downed IS suicide bombers who seem to be teenagers.

At a different scene, the Iraqi War Media Cell stated that the security forces arrested another suicide bomber before he could discharge his vest in the Zuhur neighborhood in east Mosul.

Elsewhere, Mosul Operations Command reported that security forces captured an additional three suspects and seized five suicide vests in Nabi Yunis district.

Such attempts by IS extremists to target security forces and civilians in east Mosul come after the Iraqi troops gained control of the Great al-Nuri mosque and Hadba Minaret.

Haider al-Abadi, the Iraqi PM, declared victory over IS extremists in Mosul after Iraqi forces took control of the ruined historical sites at the heart of the jihadist group’s self-proclaimed capital of Mosul.
