PHOTOS: Kurdish security defuse six IEDs in Kirkuk’s Dubis

KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Kirkuk security on Thursday defused six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the northwestern area of the province.

In a statement, Kirkuk Security Directorate announced that in cooperation with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), oil policemen and Dubis police forces defused the bombs.

Six mortar shells were planted as IED, according to the statement.

The bombs were also planted under an electricity tower located between Qara Cham village and Bai Hassan area, northwest of Kirkuk Province.

Peshmerga and security forces have repeatedly discovered booby-traps of the Islamic State (IS) on the borders of Kirkuk, especially in the west of the province.

Kirkuk Governor Najmaddin Karim has frequently mentioned that the presence of the jihadist group in the neighboring city of Hawija poses a serious threat to the security of Kirkuk.

He has called on the federal government to expedite the plan to liberate Hawija.
