Erbil Traffic police warn of flooding, Education Office reschedules mid-year exams

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Erbil Traffic Police Directorate warned drivers of heavy flooding in Erbil streets on Thursday morning and the Erbil Education Office canceled the mid-year exams at schools for the day.
Erbil Traffic Police warned the city’s residents and drivers that the flooding has blocked some streets in the city.
"Some of the city's roads and streets are impacted by this morning's flooding. Please protect yourselves and avoid going to the flooded locations," read the Traffic Police statement.
The Erbil Education Office canceled the mid-year exams and declared Thursday a school holiday as a result of the flooding.
"To protect the lives of our teachers and students, Thursday's exams are moved to next Saturday," the Education Office statement read.
Starting in the early hours on Thursday, a thunder and rainstorm hit Erbil, the Kurdistan Region capital, and caused flooding across the city.

The flooding caused traffic jams. However, no casualties or damage was reported as of 10:30 am local time.
Erbil endured two flash floods over the winter. The first occurred in early October and the second in mid-December. The December floods killed 12 people and caused extensive damage to people's houses and vehicles.
