ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that it had thwarted a planned suicide attack in rural al-Rutba district, Anbar province.
The ministry said in a statement that its Military Intelligence Division had discovered an "ISIS plot" to conduct a suicide attack in an area of al-Rutba district.
The suspected terrorist attempted to transfer explosive material into the area, with troops near the Saad Air Base discovering the smuggling operation, the statement explained.
It added that Iraqi intelligence found and seized an explosive belt as well as other weapons.
The Iraqi military also announced on Sunday that it had carried out airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq's Nineveh province, killing six militants.
