Over 40 labors died in work-related accidents in Kurdistan Region in a year

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – More than 40 laborers died in work-related accidents on sites in a year, a union leader told Kurdistan 24, blaming the high figures on a lack of adherence to safety measures.
About 41 workers died on sites mostly in construction projects the Region has witnessed a boom following the 2003 ouster of the Iraqi dictatorial regime, Hangaw Abdulla, the head of Kurdistan Labor Syndicate, told Kurdistan24 on Wednesday.
The Kurdish region has seen an increase in the number of work-related deaths among laborers in 2023 compared to the previous year, he added.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has previously prepared a workers-friendly bill that was later adopted by the Kurdistan Parliament, aimed at better-enhancing working conditions as well as safeguarding rights.
More than 50,000 workers in Erbil have insurance that financially supports them when they are unemployed, retired, or incapacitated, according to officials syndicate figures.
The Syndicate is pushing for a bill in the Kurdistan Parliament that extends social support to those workers who are not covered by government insurance.
