First Kurdish sculpture symposium commences in Mahabad

This pioneering event celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Kurdish community, with four Kurdish sculptors among the participants tasked with immortalizing six prominent figures from Mahabad.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Mahabad hosts its inaugural Kurdish sculpture symposium, featuring the participation of six renowned sculptors from northwestern Iran (Rojhilat), marking a significant cultural milestone for the region.

Over the course of 10 days, the symposium will witness the creation of sculptures by the six artists, which will be prominently displayed in public spaces across Mahabad.

This pioneering event celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Kurdish community, with four Kurdish sculptors among the participants tasked with immortalizing six prominent figures from Mahabad.

Organized by the Cultural Department of Mahabad Municipality in collaboration with the Municipal Council, the symposium takes place at Manguran Square, a historic hub in Mahabad bustling with activity.

Bashir Nasri, one of the participating sculptors, expressed pride in shaping the figures of these celebrated individuals and noted the positive reception from visitors, fostering community engagement and relationships.

Artists, including Mahdi Ziaeddin from Sina, have been warmly welcomed by locals and visitors alike, reflecting the enthusiasm for the cultural event.

Throughout the symposium, which runs daily from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm, the public is invited to witness the artists' creative process up close, fostering appreciation for the art of sculpture.

Suwara Fatouhi emphasized the educational aspect of the event, highlighting the opportunity for art enthusiasts to learn from the expertise of the participating sculptors.

At the culmination of the symposium, statues honoring teachers, Hazhar, Hemn, Khalemin Barzanji, Mohammad Mamle, Mullah Ghafoor Dabbagh, and Mohammad Qazi, will adorn public spaces in Mahabad, reflecting the city's commitment to preserving and celebrating its cultural heritage.
