Kurdistan Region President arrives in Austria
He plans to meet with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan24 correspondent Awara Hawrami on Monday said that Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani arrived in Vienna, Austria for an official visit.
Hawrami revealed that the Kurdistan Region President will meet with Austrian officials on Thursday to discuss the opening of a consulate in Erbil.
Meanwhile, he plans to meet with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.
Kurdistan Region Presidency also confirmed the president’s official visit in a statement.
In September 2023, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg visited Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, where he met with top Kurdish leaders, including Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Following decades of closure, the chief diplomat inaugurated his country’s diplomatic mission in Baghdad again. The country is also set to establish its honorary consul in Erbil.
In Dec. 2006, the country’s Austria Airlines was the first European airline to operate direct flights between Erbil and Vienna.
