During the discussions, President Barzani and party leaders expressed gratitude to the Kurdish people for their steadfast support in maintaining the KDP as the leading party in the Kurdistan Region in both parliamentary seats and popular votes.
The committee also addressed matters related to Iraq’s internal affairs and the region’s geopolitical climate. The KDP reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the interests of the Kurdistan Region while respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries. It urged Iraq to approach current challenges with caution, emphasizing that Iraq’s stability is crucial amid ongoing regional tensions.
In addition, the committee reviewed the role of the KDP’s media strategy, recognizing the significant contributions of media officials, journalists, and communication teams from various KDP-affiliated institutions. The committee highlighted the importance of countering misrepresentations from rival parties with a respectful, constructive approach. KDP media outlets and members were encouraged to uphold the party’s historic values and principles in their messaging, maintaining a dignified and secure public discourse.
The KDP Central Committee also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a campaign that reflects the KDP’s long-standing values and legacy, as well as its vision for the future of Kurdistan.
The Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections, held on Oct. 20, saw 2,087,972 eligible voters from across four constituencies—Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, and Halabja—participate in the democratic process. The high voter turnout demonstrated the strong engagement of the people in shaping the future of the Kurdistan Region.
On Oct. 21, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) released preliminary results of the sixth round of the parliamentary elections. IHEC Chairman Omar Ahmed Mohammed, during a press briefing, emphasized the smooth and well-organized process, crediting extensive preparations for its success.
“The elections proceeded very well due to the thorough preparations that were made to ensure the success of the process,” Mohammed stated. He also revealed that over 2 million voters participated in the election, marking an impressive voter turnout of 72%. Of the total vote count, 99.63% of the results were announced on Oct. 22, with the remaining portion delayed due to minor technical issues.
In total, 2,899,578 people were eligible to vote, with 2,087,972 citizens casting their ballots. The region’s 7,070 polling stations facilitated the voting process, accommodating both general and special voting categories.
