ERBIL (Kurdistan24)- Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Dr. Mohammed Al-Hassan, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq and Head of UNAMI, on Monday.
During the meeting, both officials exchanged views on Iraq's general situation and regional developments, with particular emphasis on resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government of Iraq through constitutional frameworks.
The discussion also highlighted the continued importance of UNAMI's role in maintaining peace and security in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
UNAMI (United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq) has played a crucial role in Iraq since 2003, facilitating dialogue between various political entities and providing support for political processes, reconciliation, and human rights.
The meeting comes at a significant time as the KRG and federal government continue to work on resolving longstanding issues, including budget allocation, oil revenue sharing, and disputed territories.
The UN mission has historically served as an important mediator in discussions between Erbil and Baghdad, helping to facilitate dialogue and find constitutional solutions to ongoing challenges between the two governments.
