President Barzani, outgoing US Ambassador discuss regional stability, bilateral relations in farewell talks

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Sunday, President Masoud Barzani received the US Ambassador to Iraq Alina L. Romanowski for a farewell meeting in Pirmam marking the end of the diplomat’s tenure.
Barzani Headquarters issued a statement following the meeting, highlighting that, “The US Ambassador, following an end to the diplomat’s tenure in Iraq, paid a visit to President Barzani for a farewell meeting.”
The statement also noted that the US Ambassador congratulated President Barzani once more for the successful electoral triumph and lauded the late October’s democratic process in the Kurdistan Region.
Furthermore, the outgoing US diplomat underscored the importance of designating Dec. 2 as the first official session of the Kurdistan Region’s parliament.
She considered the first meeting day of the KRG Parliament as “an important step and hoped that the meeting of Kurdistan's political parties would have positive results and that they would quickly agree on forming the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.”
Amb. Romanowski also expressed gratitude for President Barzani’s continuous support and cooperation, underlining President Barzani’s latest visit to Baghdad as ‘vital’ to bridging political sides closer and enhancing the Erbil-Baghdad relationship.
For his part, President Barzani acknowledged the outgoing US Ambassador’s efforts and wished her continued success in her future assignments.
President Barzani underscored the importance of bilateral relations between the United States with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, which has seen good progress and hoped for the continuation and expansion of relations between both sides.
The meeting also highlighted the recent regional developments and challenges, continued dangers of the emergence and resurgence of terrorism, and efforts to maintain peace and stability for Iraq and the entirety of the region.
It should also be noted that the US Consul General Steve Bitner was present in the farewell meeting.
