Erbil Municipality manages city waste, partially supports stray dog shelter with food leftover

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Erbil Directorate of Services and Environment reported that partially through collecting the city's food leftovers and restaurant surplus food, they have been able to support stay dogs in shelters.
The environmental workers transport the collected city’s waste to the Kani Qirzhala landfill.
Additionally, food waste from some of Erbil's restaurants is being directed to the city's stray dog shelter.
In an interview with Kurdistan24 on Tuesday, Zhyar Jalal, Director of Erbil Services and Environment, specified, "Our teams endlessly gather and transfer all of Erbil's waste to the city's main landfill site."
According to Jalal, "Roughly 3,000 tons of leftovers are collected on a daily basis from 12 zones and transferred to the landfill."
The Kani Qirzhala landfill, located on the Erbil-Khabat Road, is an area of 300 dunams (around 74 acres).
Concerning restaurant food waste, Jalal explained: "A number of restaurants in Erbil work with us by collecting surplus food and leftovers for the stray dog shelter. But we chiefly depend on poultry shops, collecting chicken wings and legs after butchering. In total, we transport approximately seven tons of food on a daily basis to the stray dog shelter."
The Erbil stray dog shelter is located on the Erbil-Gwer Road, covering 20 dunams (approximately 5 acres) of land, and is situated 15 kilometers from Erbil's city center.
