French FM urges for protecting Kurdish allies to France in west of Kurdistan

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – In a statement the French Foreign Minister Jean Noël Barrot on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, reaffirmed that Kurdish in the northeast of Syria (Rojava) are allies, they were the major force against ISIS. 

"Our Kurds allies must be protected, and their rights must be achieved" He said "we will arrange a meeting with our Arab, Turkish and Western allies on the situation in Syria in January," the French Foreign Ministry said. 

"Dealing with the new Syrian government must not depend on words, but on actions," He further added. 

According to official statements by the French authorities, France raised its flag at its embassy's building in Damascus, for the first time in 12 years, on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, the European Union officials are also prepared to engage with the new Syrian leadership. 

In an announcement by the official source from the French Government on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, it was stated that France will host an international meeting regarding Syria's circumstance, and it is understood that it will be in January 2025, as well as lifting of sanctions and reconstruction aid would be conditional, once clear political and security commitments achieved by the transitional authority in the new Syria.  

With a discussion over the phone made between the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean Noël Barrot, on December 11th, 2024, many important issues were highlighted.

In the telephone conversation, both parties raised concerns about ISIS threats of rebuilding its strength, to continue joint efforts to fight it in both Syria and Iraq.

According to the statements announced by both official sides, they also focused on the stability and security in Syria emphasizing on consistent coordination between the two countries as well as stressing the importance of activating the UN mission on the processes that enhance the security and stability of the region.
