Reopening embassies in Damascus, resuming diplomatic ties with Syria
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced resuming diplomatic relations with Syria, he emphasized that Iraq’s proactive diplomatic engagement in Damascus is now operational.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Neighbouring countries to Syria considered to resume the diplomatic relations with the country following the drastic developments occurred by the final ousting of Bashar al-Assad and his regime in the entire country, on December 8th, 2024.
Many western and middle eastern countries have decided to, soon, reopen their embassies offices in Damascus after the long term but for some other countries, it was a temporary closure. So far through their official sources, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Germany, France and Italy decided to consider and resume their diplomatic missions with Damascus.
After the Iraqi Embassy's temporary closure, in Damascus, upon a decision made by the Federal Iraqi Government, on Sunday, December 8th, 2024, due to the rapid security changes and ousting Bashar al-Assad's regime entirely, including in Damascus.

The Iraqi news outlets published that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced resuming diplomatic relations with Syria, he also emphasized that Iraq’s proactive diplomatic engagement, in Damascus is now operational.

France raised its flag at its embassy's building in Damascus, on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, after 12 years of pausing diplomatic relations due to the war in Syria, as well as it is understood that the European Union officials are also prepared to engage with the new Syrian leadership.

Qatar was one of the first countries announced that it will be officially reopening their embassy in the capital city of Syria, after more than 13 years of closing and halting the diplomatic ties with the country, but it hasn't set any precise date in that regard.
The Iranian Ambassador to Syria stated to the official sources in Iran, on December 16th, 2024, that the government will soon resume work and reopen its embassy.
The German Foreign Ministry announced through German media networks, on Tuesday, December 17th, "we are considering all the options, to when we can re-establish a presence in Damascus and to what extent," A source from the Foreign Ministry said.
The Turkish news agency reported, on Friday, December 13th, 2024, that the Turkish Foreign Office decided to reopen its Turkish embassy in Damascus on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, after preparations were made and team made their way to the region.
