ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs has embarked on a significant visit to Germany, where they toured the Dachau concentration camp memorial and engaged in discussions on genocide recognition and victim compensation.
On Tuesday, the Ministry announced that its delegation met with the president of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to collaborate on international efforts to secure recognition of the Kurdish genocide and advocate for compensation for victims. Discussions focused on fostering expertise in archiving, documentation, and memorial construction, reflecting a broader commitment to historical justice.
As part of their visit, the delegation toured the Dachau concentration camp, a site that stands as a testament to the horrors of the Nazi regime.
Established in 1933, Dachau was one of the first concentration camps created by the Nazis, where tens of thousands of political, religious, and ethnic prisoners perished before its liberation in 1945. Since 1965, the site has functioned as a memorial and museum dedicated to educating future generations about the atrocities committed during World War II.
The delegation emphasized the relevance of the Dachau model in the Kurdistan Region’s ongoing efforts to commemorate victims of the Ba'athist regime.
By drawing from Dachau’s approach to historical preservation and education, Kurdish authorities aim to establish memorials that serve both as sites of remembrance and as educational institutions to prevent future atrocities against the Kurdish people.
The visiting delegation included key officials, such as advisors Kamaran Abdullah and Muhammad Khidr, along with Directors-General Adib Latif, Sirwan Aziz, and Karim Kawa Rayati. Their engagement with international experts reflects the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to strengthening global awareness of the Anfal campaign and other crimes committed against the Kurdish population.

The visit marks a critical step in the KRG’s broader mission to ensure historical justice and international recognition for Kurdish genocide victims while fostering institutional collaborations to safeguard the region’s historical memory.
