ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Germany has continued its efforts to manage migration and enforce immigration laws with another successful repatriation flight carrying 47 individuals to Iraq. The flight, which departed from Hanover, included individuals from 11 federal states and is scheduled to arrive in Baghdad by early afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Lower Saxony Interior Ministry confirmed that 16 of the repatriated individuals were from Lower Saxony. While no further details were provided, the operation reflects Germany’s ongoing commitment to upholding legal decisions about residency status.

As of late 2023, approximately 281,000 Iraqi nationals were residing in Germany. The asylum rejection rate for Iraqi applicants in 2024 stood at 55.6 percent. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, by the end of October 2023, around 26,000 Iraqis in Germany were under orders to leave.

Germany has increased its repatriation efforts in 2024, with 699 individuals returning to Iraq so far, compared to 399 in 2023. Strong cooperation between German and Iraqi authorities has facilitated deportations to Iraq, making the process more efficient than returns to countries with less government coordination.
