ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has extended heartfelt Eid al-Fitr greetings to all celebrating in Kurdistan, Iraq, and around the world. In his message, he wished for a blessed and joyous Eid holiday for everyone observing the occasion.

The Kurdistan Region Government's (KRG) Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs announced on Saturday afternoon that Sunday, March 30, 2025, will mark the first day of Eid al-Fitr, concluding the holy month of Ramadan during which Muslims in the Kurdistan Region and globally observed fasting and prayer.

This announcement aligns with several countries in the region. Qatar's Crescent Sighting Committee confirmed that Sunday, March 30, is the first day of Eid, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon. Similarly, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait have declared Sunday as the start of Eid celebrations.

In contrast, Iran and some other nations, including the Shiite supreme cleric Ayatollah Sistani in Iraq, have announced that Monday, March 31, will be the first day of Eid, as the crescent moon was not sighted on March 29. This variation in moon sighting reports is common, with Shiite-majority countries and groups typically observing Eid a day later than Sunni-majority countries and groups. These differences in observance highlight the distinct practices between the two sects, leading to different celebration dates across regions.

Eid al-Fitr, known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is a significant religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It marks the end of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, and reflection. The holiday is characterized by communal prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

Prime Minister Barzani's Eid greetings reflect the Kurdistan Region's commitment to fostering unity and celebrating shared cultural and religious traditions. As communities come together to mark this auspicious occasion, the diversity in celebration dates highlights the rich tapestry of customs and practices within the Muslim world.
