DAANES, Damascus Reach Joint Agreement on Tishreen Dam Management
A source from DAANES confirmed on Thursday that the agreement is part of a broader political understanding between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the transitional Syrian government.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) and the Syrian government have reached a significant agreement to jointly manage the Tishreen Dam, one of the largest hydropower facilities in northern Syria (Rojava).
A source from DAANES confirmed on Thursday that the agreement is part of a broader political understanding between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the transitional Syrian government. Under the terms of the deal, the SDF will withdraw from the dam area, transferring control to the general security forces operating under the authority of the new Damascus administration.
The joint management initiative stems from an agreement signed on March 11 between SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi and Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The move is seen as a step toward de-escalating tensions and fostering cooperation between DAANES and the central government in Damascus.
Tishreen Dam, located on the Euphrates River, plays a crucial role in the region’s electricity production and water regulation.
