ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Council of Ministers is set to convene on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, with a high-stakes agenda dominated by the unresolved issue of public sector salaries. The meeting is expected to address the delayed disbursement of wages, a matter that has escalated into a major source of public dissatisfaction and political tension.
According to a statement issued by the KRG, the Council will focus its discussions on three core issues. Foremost among them is the pressing matter of salaries and the rightful financial entitlements owed to civil servants and public employees across the Region. The topic has taken center stage in recent weeks amid growing frustration among unpaid workers and mounting criticism directed at the federal government in Baghdad.
The second item on the agenda will address the longstanding issue of prior marriage dowries for the children of Kurdistan's martyrs. These dowries represent a symbolic and financial commitment to families who have lost loved ones in the struggle for Kurdish rights and security. Resolving these concerns has been a recurring demand of veteran and martyr families, who argue that such recognition is a constitutional and moral obligation.
The third item will focus on the employment contracts of government staff. This discussion comes at a time when contract-based employees across multiple departments are calling for greater job security, fair compensation, and formal recognition of their contributions to public service.
