ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced on Friday the cancellation of all events related to its annual commemoration day, citing the deaths of senior Iranian military officials in Israeli airstrikes.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the PMF's General Media Directorate declared: "The General Media Directorate announces the cancellation of all events related to the celebration of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Day, which were scheduled to begin tomorrow, due to the martyrdom of a number of heroic commanders in the Islamic Republic of Iran."

The announcement reflects the PMF's alignment with Iran and its symbolic mourning in response to the killing of high-ranking Iranian military leaders and scientists targeted in Israeli strikes earlier this week.

The strikes, which reportedly involved more than 200 Israeli fighter jets, have sparked widespread condemnation across the region, intensifying fears of broader regional escalation. Tehran has vowed a retaliatory response, while allied groups such as the PMF have echoed Iran's calls for justice and resistance.

The PMF, an umbrella group of Iran-backed paramilitary factions integrated into Iraq's security forces, has long maintained strong ties with Tehran and often frames its military and political identity in alignment with Iran's "resistance axis."

The cancellation of PMF Day events underscores the seriousness with which the group regards the Israeli operation and signals a heightened state of alert across the region's Iran-aligned forces.
