ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced Monday morning, June 23, 2025, that Iran launched a second wave of ballistic missile attacks targeting Israel, marking a new escalation in the ongoing war between the two countries.

According to the IDF statement, Israel's defense systems are actively engaged in intercepting the incoming missiles. Authorities have called on civilians across targeted areas to immediately seek shelter. “Citizens have been urged to move to shelters,” the statement emphasized.

The latest barrage is the second ballistic missile strike from Iran on Monday alone. Earlier in the day, more than 10 missiles were launched toward Israel, with at least five reportedly landing in various parts of Tel Aviv. Casualty figures for both attacks have yet to be confirmed.

Israeli media also reported that several additional ballistic missiles were fired toward Israel from Yemen. While Iranian media outlets confirmed the launch, they clarified that these missiles were not fired from Iranian soil.

This intensifying exchange of fire comes as Israel continues its daily airstrikes on Iranian military installations. According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), nine of its personnel were killed and several others injured in Israeli air raids on Sunday night, June 22, 2025.

The broader conflict erupted in the early hours of Friday, June 13, 2025, when Israel initiated a large-scale aerial campaign—dubbed “Operation Rising Lion”—using over 200 fighter jets to target Iranian military and nuclear sites, including installations in Tehran and other key regions. The strikes led to the deaths of several high-ranking military officers and nuclear scientists.

The situation escalated further when the United States intervened with a coordinated bombing campaign against Iran’s three major nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—on Sunday morning, June 22.

According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), as of Sunday, June 22, 2025, at least 865 individuals have been killed in Iran since the onset of hostilities, with over 3,396 wounded. The report emphasizes that a significant portion of the casualties are civilians.

The continuation of missile attacks from both sides underscores the persistent volatility of the region. International calls for de-escalation have so far had little visible impact on the unfolding military confrontation.
