Iran 'Does Not Beg for Its Security from Anyone,' Says Qalibaf
Iran's Parliament Speaker Qalibaf, cited in state-run IRIB, declared at a Geneva summit that Iran "does not beg for its security from anyone," claiming diplomatic victory and asserting Iran's strength and authority post-conflict.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, declared that his country "does not beg for its security from anyone," framing Tehran's participation in a global parliamentary summit in Geneva as a diplomatic victory that shattered the "media construct of a weakened Iran" following the recent 12-day conflict.
According to a report from the state-run IRIB News Agency, Qalibaf delivered a detailed report on the summit during a pre-agenda speech on the floor of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles) on Sunday. He presented the diplomatic engagement as a crucial mission to correct international perceptions and assert Iran's authority on the world stage.
"Last week, the parliamentary delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, representing the noble people of Iran, participated in the summit of heads of parliaments of the world's countries," Qalibaf stated, according to IRIB. He described the event's importance, noting it was "Iran's first presence in official summits at the UN headquarters after the 12-day Holy Defense," and highlighted the attendance of "more than 110 parliamentary delegations from around the world."
The head of the legislative branch explained that the Iranian delegation had two primary objectives. The first was to counter what he called a campaign by the "Western media empire" which he claimed "had made great efforts to portray Iran as the loser of the recent imposed war." Qalibaf argued their goal was "to force Iran to accept an imposed peace after the imposed war," and therefore the delegation’s mission was to "correct this media construct, which could become the prelude to another miscalculation by the enemy."
The second objective, he continued, was to act as the "voice of this oppression" for the people of Gaza and "to demand humanity from governments and international institutions."
Qalibaf detailed a three-pronged strategy to achieve these goals: an initiative-based sideline summit hosted by Iran, official speeches, and bilateral meetings.
He claimed the sideline summit, titled "Adherence to International Law and the UN Charter to Guarantee International Peace and Security," was a resounding success. "The reception for the initiative-based summit... with the participation of 31 parliamentary delegations and three international organizations, was beyond the expectations of even friendly countries," Qalibaf reported. He asserted that it "encouraged friendly countries and angered Iran's enemies," demonstrating "Iran's high standing in the post-war period" and conveying a "message of support from countries for our nation's rational and correct positions."
In his official speeches, Qalibaf said his first strategy was to "shatter the image of a weakened Iran." He explained, "While pointing out the illegal and oppressive actions of America and the Zionist regime based on the UN Charter, the effort was to make it clear that Iran does not beg for its security from anyone... so that the miscalculations of Iran's enemies are corrected and they know that the only path they have is to accept our legal rights and have no desire for an imposed war or an imposed peace." He added that Iran, "from the position of a victor in the war," is ready for diplomacy with "rational and honorable mechanisms."
His second strategy, according to the IRIB report, was to "expose the criminal Zionist regime and its Western supporters." Qalibaf stated that he sought to explain that Israel's behavior is "defined based on 21st-century Nazism" and is a "threat to global security." The third strategy was to demand practical action, not just words, in defense of Gaza, warning that inaction could lead to the "collapse of the international community."
The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly also recounted a direct confrontation, claiming the delegation's activities "angered the disrespectful speaker of the Knesset of the Zionist regime and forced him into a passive reaction." Qalibaf alleged the Israeli speaker "was forced to deny the starvation of the people and children of Gaza," and celebrated that the slogan "Death to Israel" was broadcast. "Right here, we proudly and loudly declare: O Israel! Be angry with us, and from this anger, die," Qalibaf was quoted as saying by IRIB.
Concluding his report, Qalibaf said that in his bilateral meetings, the "most frequent message conveyed... was appreciation for Iran's authority and positions against America and the Zionist regime." He said he used these meetings to explain Iran's military capacity and to "review bilateral issues between countries to strengthen economic and trade relations."
