ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — European leaders are set to gather at the White House on Monday for critical talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aiming to reconcile sharp differences over a potential peace deal with Russia.

The leaders of Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Finland, along with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, will seek to demonstrate unity with Kyiv as Trump pushes Ukraine to accept major concessions.

The planned meetings come as Kyiv endures renewed Russian strikes. Overnight attacks killed at least seven people, with air raid sirens once again sounding across the capital.

Tensions have risen following Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, where he declared that Ukraine should relinquish Crimea and abandon its NATO ambitions—two longstanding Kremlin demands firmly rejected by Kyiv.

Zelensky is expected to meet Trump in the Oval Office for a one-on-one discussion, the same venue where, in February Trump and his deputy, JD Vance, openly criticized Ukraine’s war strategy. Later, Trump will hold separate sessions with European leaders.

Trump has described the gathering as a “big day at the White House,” though his combative tone remains clear in a series of sharp social media posts ahead of the talks.
