Trump Says No Iran Talks Under Way as US Blockade of Iranian Ports Remains in Force

“There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that no talks or negotiations with Iran are currently taking place or planned, while insisting that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports remains fully in effect.

“There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect. The Hormuz Strait is open and operating. All water mines have been removed or detonated,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

Trump’s remarks came after he posted a map labeling the Strait of Hormuz as “NEW U.S. Territory,” renewing his threat to claim sovereignty over the strategically vital waterway.

Iran has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy chokepoint through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes, in retaliation for the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28.

Trump first raised the possibility of taking control of the strait on Friday, saying he would soon declare it US territory. Iran rejected the idea, saying the waterway “will remain Iranian.”

Trump reiterated the proposal on Monday while speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, suggesting that US control of the strait would be beneficial.

The Strait of Hormuz was an open international waterway before the war began. Iran has said it will not reopen the passage until Washington meets a broad list of demands, including ending the US blockade of Iranian ports, lifting oil sanctions, releasing frozen Iranian assets and paying compensation for wartime damage.

Trump has previously made territorial expansion threats since returning to office in 2025, including proposals to make Canada the 51st US state, take control of Greenland and assume control of the Gaza Strip, although none of those proposals have been implemented.
