President Barzani, German Consul Stress Strong Coordination
President Masoud Barzani and German Consul General Christian Oelfke discussed stronger coordination, Iraq's security challenges and the Kurdistan Region's political process.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - President Masoud Barzani received Germany's Consul General in Erbil, Christian Oelfke, on Saturday in Pirmam, where the two sides discussed strengthening coordination between Germany and the Kurdistan Region as well as the latest political and security developments in Iraq.
According to a statement issued by Barzani Headquarters on Saturday, the German Consul General Christian Oelfke highlighted what he described as the Kurdistan Region's distinctive position and important role in maintaining stability in Iraq and the wider region.
The German consul general also reaffirmed Berlin's interest in strengthening coordination with the Kurdistan Region across various fields.
The meeting included discussions on the latest developments in Iraq, with particular attention to continuing terrorist threats and the country's prospects in the coming period, according to the readout.
President Barzani and Oelfke also reviewed the Kurdistan Region's internal political process, which remains focused on efforts to reactivate parliament and move forward with the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government's 10th cabinet.
The talks come as Kurdish political parties continue consultations aimed at resolving the prolonged political deadlock and restoring the normal functioning of the Region's legislative institutions.
Germany has maintained close political, economic and security ties with the Kurdistan Region and has played an important role in supporting stability and security cooperation in Iraq.
Saturday's meeting underscored the continued dialogue between Erbil and Berlin at a time when Iraq and the wider Middle East face persistent security challenges and significant political changes.
