Women Farmers Receive Lands, Certified Seeds in Sulaimani Project
Sulaimani’s Women and Land project enters phase two, giving certified seeds to 10 women farmers in Pira Magroon to boost their financial independence.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Women farmers in the Piramagrun sub-district of Sulaimani province received sacks of certified seeds as the second phase of the “Women and Land for Agriculture” project got under way, an initiative aimed at supporting rural women and securing their financial independence.
Civil society organizations are carrying out the initiative in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources and the Sulaimani Directorate of Agriculture.
The project seeks to strengthen the role of women, who have historically been a main pillar of agricultural work and crop production in villages and rural areas.
Its goal is to help them become owners of agricultural enterprises and sources of independent, sustainable income, particularly in wheat cultivation and production.
Earlier phases of the project reached a wide group of women farmers through specialized training workshops and field guidance.
The sessions covered how to raise land productivity, improve crop quality and apply the latest standards in managing agricultural fields.
The current phase includes the distribution of seeds to 10 women farmers as an initial batch.
The project goes beyond handing out seeds. It is accompanied by an integrated guidance program that follows the stages of planting and harvest and extends to the mechanisms for marketing the crop in local markets.
The aim is to ensure that participants earn worthwhile financial returns that strengthen their contribution to the economic development of the Region’s agricultural sector.
The circle of beneficiaries is set to widen in later phases to include larger numbers of women, extending the project’s reach across the Region’s farming communities.
