President Nechirvan Barzani meets Lebanon’s PM, ministers at MSC 2022 in Germany 

Barzani reiterated the unwavering support of the Kurdistan Region to the ethnic and religious minorities in the Kurdistan Region while describing the papal visit as “historic”.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati and a few other ministers on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2022 on Friday. 

President Barzani arrived in Germany’s Bavaria region on Friday to attend the two-day 58th session of the MSC, according to a press release from his media office.

On the sidelines of the conference on Friday, the Kurdish president met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Vatican Foreign Minister Paul Richard Gallagher, and Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. 

Barzani discussed bilateral relations that the Kurdistan Region has with these officials and ways to foster those ties, particularly in the investment sector, his media office said of the meetings.

The Kurdish official also discussed the latest political developments in Iraq, including efforts to form a new government in Baghdad following the country’s October 10, 2021, parliamentary elections. 

Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati officially invited the Kurdish president to pay a visit to his country, according to one statement.

The Vatican chief diplomat highlighted Pope Francis’ latest visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region last March, as well as the conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Kurdistan Region.

Barzani reiterated the unwavering support of the Kurdistan Region to the ethnic and religious minorities in the Kurdistan Region while describing the papal visit as “historic”. 

Speaking of Emirati investments in Kurdistan Region, Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s willingness to provide business and investment opportunities for the Gulf state, the release added. 

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is also representing the Kurdistan Region at the security conference. He is set to meet with a number of world leaders, including the United Nations António Guterres and the President of the European Union Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
