ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Ibrahim Abdulmajid, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Tourism Board, revealed that approximately 200,000 tourists flocked to the Kurdistan Region to celebrate the Ramadan holidays within a span of six days.

Abdulmajid disclosed that over 1.5 million tourists have visited the region's tourist attractions in the first three months of this year alone.

Expressing optimism for the upcoming summer season, Abdulmajid anticipates a surge in tourist numbers compared to last year's figures. In 2023, over seven million tourists chose Kurdistan as their destination.

Over the past four years, the KRG has prioritized the enhancement of tourism infrastructure as part of its strategy to diversify revenue sources. The sector has seen substantial investments totaling $4.5 billion, positioning tourism as a leading contributor to the region's economy. According to Abdulmajid, the tourism sector now constitutes 42% of the region's overall economic output, surpassing all other sectors.

With ongoing efforts to develop and promote tourism offerings, the Kurdistan Region remains an attractive destination for visitors seeking diverse cultural experiences and natural landscapes.
