ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kuwaiti Airways will resume flights to Iraq after the Gulf state had temporarily suspended them following recent rocket attacks on Baghdad airport, according to the Iraqi foreign ministry.

Six rockets targeted Baghdad International Airport on Jan. 28, damaging an out-of-service civilian airplane.

However, the attack did not disrupt flights. Kuwait Airways halted its flights to the country under the instructions of the Administration of Kuwaiti Civil Aviation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Airways had informed the Iraqi ambassador to the Gulf state that his company would resume the flights, Ahmed al-Sahaf, the spokesperson for the Iraqi foreign ministry, told the state media on Thursday without elaborating.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The government later announced that it had arrested the perpetrator without providing any details.

Baghdad airport and Green Zone are among the spots that are frequently targeted by the explosives-laden drones and rockets, sometimes causing civilian causalities.

The government blames “armed groups” and describe the attacks as “terrorist” without elaborating on the identities of the perpetrators.
