‘Jordan is an anchor for regional stability’: Kurdish PM Barzani from the Munich Security Conference

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, at the Munich Security Conference (MSC – 2022) in Germany on Saturday.
“On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, we met Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Barzani wrote in a Facebook post. “In the meeting, we discussed the latest developments in Iraq and discussed ways to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The two officials reiterated the need to expand coordination and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in areas of common interest.
“I was pleased to see Jordan DPM/FM my friend Ayman Safadi on the margins of MSC-2022,” the Kurdish PM tweeted on Saturday. “As I said, Jordan is an anchor for regional stability.”

In his later meeting with Safadi, Barzani “urged the leadership under HM the King to continue its constructive role in promoting stability in Iraq”.
The three-day MSC-2022 kicked off in Germany on Friday. Its primary focus is on Western strategy vis-à-vis the Ukraine crisis, but solutions for managing the pandemic and the fight against climate change are also to be discussed at the conference.

Leaders from across the world have gathered in Munich for this year’s conference, where the Ukraine crisis currently looms large. Russia is not officially represented and has triggered new fears of war in Europe by deploying thousands of troops on the Ukrainian border.
