KRG initiates strategic recycling plant in Soran amid health concerns
According to the latest statistics from the General Directorate of Municipalities of Soran, 300 to 350 tons of garbage are collected daily in the Independent Administration of Soran, and the waste is currently disposed of underground.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Residents of towns and villages in the Independent Administration of Soran have expressed serious concerns over the waste and garbage disposal area, urging the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to find a practical and scientific solution.
Mohammed Abdullah, an environmentalist, told Kurdistan24, “If the groundwater becomes contaminated, it indirectly carries poison. The waste collection site is southwest of Qasre village. When the wind blows from the north or south, sometimes the garbage catches fire, and the smoke pollutes our air.”
Sarbaz Ahmad, a resident of Qasre, added, “The current waste collection site is unsuitable for health and environmental reasons. Bringing waste from other areas here poses a serious future threat to the health of Qasre’s residents.”
Halgurd Sheikh Najib, the supervisor of the Independent Administration of Soran, informed Kurdistan24, “A contract has been signed, and the foundation stone for the Soran Recycling Plant Project will be laid in a ceremony soon. This strategic project is a priority for the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Region’s government. In our latest meeting, the Prime Minister ordered the immediate commencement of the Soran Recycling Plant Project.”
