ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The United Nations Investigative Team (UNITAD) has released its findings on the horrific international crimes committed by the Islamic State (ISIS) against inmates at Badush prison near Mosul on June 10, 2014.

The report reveals that approximately 1,000 male prisoners, including Yezidis and Christians, were systematically executed by ISIS members across at least six different locations within the prison complex.

In collaboration with the Iraqi Directorate of Mass Graves Affairs and Protection and the Department of Forensic Medicine, and with the support of UNITAD, the remains of over 600 victims have been exhumed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The UNITAD team's conclusion is chilling: "there are reasonable grounds to believe that the killing operation at Badush Prison was undertaken with genocidal intent in the context of an ISIL (Da’esh) genocidal policy against the Shi’a in Iraq."

To further illustrate the atrocities, UNITAD, with support from SITU, has produced a video providing an overview of the attack on Badush prison and detailing the team's findings on the international crimes committed against the inmates.

This is the third such collaboration between SITU and UNITAD, aimed at visualizing the prominent attacks perpetrated by ISIS using information gathered by the investigative team.

Last Tuesday, Sep. 10, UNITAD shared a copy of the comprehensive report with the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq. Key elements of the investigation had previously been shared with relevant authorities in a third country.
