ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq has approved the candidacy of 1,191 individuals for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 20. The announcement was made on Tuesday by IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai, in an interview with Kurdistan24.
Al-Ghalai also provided details about the polling arrangements, revealing that 1,266 polling stations will be set up across the four provinces of the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, 165 polling stations will serve voters in other parts of Iraq.
The electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections is set to begin this Wednesday, running until October 15. During a press conference, al-Ghalai emphasized that the campaign will be conducted freely, with respect for public decorum, and in close coordination with provincial and municipal institutions.
The Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism has also issued specific guidelines for the election campaign. In a statement released on Sunday, the ministry urged all political parties to adhere to the rules and regulations set for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections.
Al-Ghalai added that candidates will be responsible for the removal of campaign posters and materials once the campaign concludes, as part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with election regulations.
