PM Masrour Barzani attends Gomaspan dam operating ceremony
Gomaspan dam is the largest dam in Erbil province and the third largest in Kurdistan Region after Dukan and Darbandikhan dams.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attends a ceremony for operating Gomaspan dam, on Wednesday, in Erbil.
Gomaspan dam is the largest dam in Erbil province and the third largest in Kurdistan Region after Dukan and Darbandikhan dams.
Gomaspan locates 35 kilometers northeast of Erbil, covers 6 million 125 thousand m2 on the ground. According to the sources, such reservoir relies on rainwater and local springs, its storage expected to be around 115 million m3.
It is considered as one of the strategic projects by the 9th Cabinet at the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Building and reconstruction engineers highlighted that its design is with Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC), which is said to have used for the first time in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

It is expected to have a big impact on enhancing the water resources, increasing groundwater levels and fighting drought.
