ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region's Minister of Education announced on Thursday that the ministry is collaborating with UNICEF on two digitalization projects, set to be implemented for all students in the near future.
During a press conference on Thursday, Education Minister Alan Hama Saeed stated, "We must consider students who have been away from their studies in our general approach, and we will inform relevant authorities in district education departments about this matter."
"We thank UNICEF for their crucial support of the Kurdistan Region in our projects. We are currently working on two new digitalization projects with UNICEF, with one phase to be implemented for all students in the near future," the minister said.
He added, "The second project will be implemented in spring next year. I thank all teachers and staff participating in this process, and I especially appreciate the ministry's planning directorate for their significant role."
The minister emphasized that "Data is being transparently recorded on a website in the Kurdistan Region, particularly during the KRG's ninth cabinet, where this work has been prioritized and the data is accessible to all."
He further explained that "Returning to education isn't just about presenting numbers; the process includes analyzing the reasons why students dropped out in the first place."
Hama Saeed revealed that "6,687 students have recently returned to school, adding to the 26,384 students who had previously returned, bringing the total number of returning students across both phases to over 33,000."
The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Education has been actively working to modernize its education system and reduce dropout rates through various initiatives.
The partnership with UNICEF represents a significant step toward digitalizing education and making it more accessible to students across the region, while also addressing the challenges of student retention and reintegration into the education system.
