ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Monday told Kurdistan24 that during his meeting with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, he expressed France’s commitment to the full participation of the Kurds in the next Syrian government.

“There must be a peaceful solution in Syria that respects the Kurds and takes into account their role in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS),” said FM Barrot in a live televised interview with Kurdistan24.

The French Foreign Minister emphasized that “there must be a political solution that protects Kurdish rights in Syria and takes into account Turkey's security.”

Earlier this month, Barrot visited Damascus, where he met with top leaders of the Syrian Transitional Government. During this visit, Barrot emphasized the importance of involving France’s Kurdish allies in the political process to resolve Syria’s ongoing crisis.

"A political solution must be reached with France's allies, the Kurds, so that they are fully integrated into this political process that is beginning today," Barrot stated during a meeting with members of Syria’s civil society in Damascus.
