ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – For the first time in three years, snowfall graced central Kirkuk on Sunday, lightly blanketing parts of the city and bringing a touch of winter magic to its residents.

The long-awaited snowfall, following a period of rain and cold weather, was part of a larger wave of precipitation predicted by the Kurdistan Region's meteorology department.

According to meteorological forecasts, the ongoing wave of snow and rain that has swept across the Kurdistan Region finally reached Kirkuk, creating a partial but picturesque white landscape in the city center.

The last recorded snowfall in Kirkuk was in the winter of 2022, making this morning's event a rare and welcomed occurrence for the city's inhabitants.

Hemin Delo, Kurdistan24’s correspondent, reported that while snowfall in the central parts of Kirkuk was minimal, higher elevations and the surrounding outskirts received more substantial accumulations.

The sight of snowfall prompted many Kirkuk residents to venture outside, particularly towards the hills and elevated areas where the snow was thicker, eager to experience the wintery atmosphere.

Residents took to social media to share their excitement, posting images and videos of snow-covered rooftops, trees, and streets.

Many families seized the opportunity to enjoy the rare snowfall, with children playing in the snow and locals capturing the fleeting beauty of Kirkuk’s winter landscape.

The snowfall has also brought temporary relief to concerns over water shortages, as increased precipitation contributes to groundwater replenishment.

Meanwhile, local authorities remain vigilant regarding potential impacts on road conditions, urging drivers to exercise caution due to possible icy surfaces.

While the snowfall in Kirkuk was modest compared to other regions, its symbolic significance was felt across the city, reviving memories of past winters and offering a brief yet enchanting winter spectacle.

With weather patterns continuing to shift, meteorologists are closely monitoring further developments, leaving residents hopeful for more seasonal surprises in the near future.
