ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Interior has introduced a new directive aimed at regulating food delivery services, imposing stricter compliance measures on delivery companies operating in the region.

The directive, issued on Sunday, and signed by Hemn Merany, Director General of the Diwan at the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior, outlines key guidelines that companies must adhere to in order to ensure road safety, environmental responsibility, and employment opportunities for local residents.

According to the directive, all delivery motorcycle drivers must obtain valid motorcycle licenses and register their vehicles within six months of the directive’s issuance.

Companies that fail to comply will be held financially liable for any infractions.

The new rules also hold delivery companies accountable for past violations committed by their drivers, with penalties being enforced based on identifiable company logos.

Companies will be required to clear outstanding fines within one year.

A crucial aspect of the directive is its emphasis on local employment.

Delivery companies are now mandated to prioritize hiring residents of the Kurdistan Region, reinforcing efforts to enhance job opportunities for the local workforce.

Additionally, the directive underscores environmental considerations and public sentiment by requiring food delivery services to adopt electric and noise-free motorcycles for urban deliveries.

This move is aimed at reducing noise pollution and promoting sustainability within Kurdistan’s cities.

For safety and security purposes, the Ministry of Interior has made helmets mandatory for all delivery drivers.

Furthermore, drivers must wear company-specific uniforms, ensuring that each business maintains distinct attire to enhance security and brand recognition.

The implementation of these regulations signals the government’s commitment to modernizing the food delivery industry while ensuring safety, sustainability, and local employment growth. As companies begin the transition to comply with these new policies, enforcement mechanisms are expected to be put in place to ensure adherence to the Ministry's guidelines.
