Kurdish farmers in Kirkuk urge PM Barzani to prioritize their demands

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdish farmers in Kirkuk have issued a series of demands to Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, urging decisive action on key issues affecting their communities.
Speaking on Monday, Mohammed Amin, a Kurdish farmer, called on Prime Minister Barzani to implement Article 140 as a top priority for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). He emphasized that the KRG considers itself the rightful authority over Kurdish-majority areas and urged the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to accelerate the formation of a new government that would actively defend Kurdish rights in Baghdad.
Sabir Hassan, a Mulla from Shanagha village in Kirkuk, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Barzani for acknowledging their concerns. “We have faced oppression since 1963,” he said. “The Arabs who were resettled in our lands were not Iraqis; they came from Arar city and returned in 1967. In 1975, after the revolution’s collapse, we were forcibly displaced and replaced by Arab settlers. We urge you to intensify your efforts because the Iraqi government has repeatedly failed to uphold its commitments. The international community must intervene.”
Prime Minister Barzani addressed the farmers and Peshmerga forces during an iftar gathering on Monday, held on the fifth front in western Kirkuk. In his speech, he reaffirmed the KRG’s steadfast commitment to protecting Kurdish rights and ensuring the security and prosperity of the region.
