ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed willingness to meet with the Imrali delegation, as part of ongoing political efforts to address the Kurdish issue in Turkey.

Meanwhile, the delegation is expected to formally submit a request to meet with Erdogan today or tomorrow, signaling a potential shift in Ankara’s approach to the decades-long conflict.

Political Dialogue Gains Momentum

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has launched a second round of meetings with Turkish political parties in a bid to secure a consensus on a new phase in resolving the Kurdish issue. As part of this initiative, the party is scheduled to hold discussions with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) on November 17.

Speaking to a press conference, President Erdogan reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating terrorism while simultaneously seeking a long-term resolution to the Kurdish conflict.

“We are working for a Turkey free from terrorism, while at the same time addressing a 40-year-old issue,” Erdogan stated. He further noted that his party’s leadership is currently evaluating discussions with the Imrali delegation and that he would consider their request if they formally submit one.

A Critical Shift in the Kurdish-Turkish Conflict

The Turkish Hürriyet newspaper has reported that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is preparing for a crucial conference in April, which is expected to mark a turning point in the group’s trajectory.

According to the gazette, PKK is considering taking bold steps, including disarmament and potential dissolution, in response to a call from its imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan to transition from armed struggle to political engagement.

While previous peace efforts—from 1993 to 2015—failed to yield lasting results, current conditions appear more favorable for a negotiated settlement.

The upcoming PKK conference is expected to reinforce Ocalan’s directive to end armed conflict, although he will be unable to personally oversee the proceedings. The group has signaled readiness to move forward with this process, with plans to declare a ceasefire and open avenues for comprehensive political dialogue.

The Last Chance for Peace?

Observers describe the April conference as a decisive moment, possibly the last opportunity to achieve a peaceful resolution to the decades-long conflict. If successful, the process could bring an end to armed hostilities and usher in a new era of coexistence and equal rights.
