Iran Increases Urban Patrols with Basij Paramilitary Units Amid Israel Conflict
The growing domestic security measures reflect Tehran's concern about potential unrest or infiltration during a period of heightened alert across the country.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iran announced on Sunday that it has increased urban patrols by Basij paramilitary units and other security forces to maintain internal stability as the conflict with Israel enters its tenth day, according to AFP.
“In line with the increased security that is needed, especially at night, the number of urban patrols has increased,” government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said during a televised address on state TV. “We should express our gratitude to the Basij forces and all the popular forces for that.”
The statement comes amid heightened tensions and regional instability following a series of escalatory attacks between Iran and Israel, as well as recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The growing domestic security measures reflect Tehran's concern about potential unrest or infiltration during a period of heightened alert across the country.
The Basij, a volunteer paramilitary force under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has frequently been deployed in times of crisis, both for internal security and public control.
While the government has not indicated a specific threat, the deployment of additional patrols suggests a precautionary effort to deter potential disturbances or sabotage, particularly during nighttime hours. Iran has previously tightened internal security during regional confrontations, citing concerns over foreign interference and domestic unrest.
