U.S. Condemns Threats Against IAEA Chief, Urges Iran to Ensure Personnel Safety
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio: “Calls in Iran for the arrest and execution of IAEA Director General Grossi are unacceptable and should be condemned.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The United States on Sunday strongly condemned public calls in Iran for the arrest and execution of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, calling the threats “unacceptable” and urging Tehran to guarantee the safety of international nuclear inspectors.
In a post published on his official X account, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “Calls in Iran for the arrest and execution of IAEA Director General Grossi are unacceptable and should be condemned.”
The statement comes amid rising tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and growing international concern over its lack of cooperation with the IAEA’s verification and monitoring activities.
Secretary Rubio reiterated Washington’s support for the agency’s mission and praised Grossi’s leadership, writing, “We support the IAEA's critical verification and monitoring efforts in Iran and commend the Director General and the IAEA for their dedication and professionalism.”
The Secretary of State further called on Tehran to uphold its international obligations by ensuring the safety and security of IAEA personnel working in the country.

Grossi has been a key figure in ongoing diplomatic efforts to oversee Iran’s nuclear activities, which remain a flashpoint in global nonproliferation efforts. The U.S. and its allies have repeatedly urged Iran to fully cooperate with the IAEA and return to compliance with its nuclear commitments.
Hardline voices in Iran have escalated rhetoric against Grossi in recent weeks following his criticism of Iran’s growing lack of transparency regarding its atomic program.
