ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The United Nations and the United States have strongly criticized Iran’s decision to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warning of its implications for regional and global security.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric described the move as “obviously concerning,” underscoring Secretary-General António Guterres’s long-standing position on nuclear transparency. “We've seen the official decision, which is obviously concerning. I think the Secretary-General has been very consistent in his call for Iran to cooperate with the IAEA, and, frankly, for all countries to work closely with the IAEA on nuclear issues,” Dujarric said.
In Washington, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce echoed these concerns, calling Tehran’s decision “unacceptable.” Addressing the press on the same day, Bruce stated, “We’ll use the word unacceptable, that Iran chose to suspend cooperation with the IAEA at a time when it has a window of opportunity to reverse course and choose a path of peace and prosperity.”
The suspension of Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA comes amid mounting international scrutiny over its nuclear program, raising fears of further instability in the region.
