ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced what he described as a “massive Deal” with Japan, claiming it involves a $550 billion investment into the United States, new market access for American goods, and the creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs.

In a message posted to social media platform Truth Social, Trump laid out the terms of what he called “perhaps the largest Deal ever made.”

"We just completed a massive Deal with Japan," the statement began. "Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits. This Deal will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs — There has never been anything like it."

The announcement comes amid a long-standing and complex trade relationship between the U.S. and Japan, the world's first and fourth-largest economies, respectively.

Japan is already one of the largest sources of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States, with Japanese companies operating major manufacturing plants, particularly in the automotive sector, and employing hundreds of thousands of American workers.

The statement continued, outlining new trade openings: "Perhaps most importantly, Japan will open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things."

Access to Japan's market, especially for U.S. autos and agricultural products like rice, has been a key objective for successive U.S. administrations. Historically, Japan has maintained strong protections for its domestic rice market, and U.S. automakers have faced significant tariff and non-tariff barriers.

Trump also announced a new tariff structure. "Japan will pay Reciprocal Tariffs to the United States of 15%," his statement said. Typically, tariffs are taxes levied on imported goods and paid by the importing company in the country where the goods are sold, rather than being a direct payment from one government to another.

Concluding on a positive note, Trump framed the agreement as a diplomatic success that would strengthen bilateral ties.

"This is a very exciting time for the United States of America, and especially for the fact that we will continue to always have a great relationship with the Country of Japan," he wrote. "Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
