Ex-Speaker al-Halbousi to Arrive in Erbil for High-Level Talks with Kurdistan Leaders
Former Iraqi parliament speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi will travel to Erbil on Thursday for talks with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, President Masoud Barzani and President Nechirvan Barzani
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Mohammed al-Halbousi, the former speaker of Iraq's Council of Representatives and leader of the Taqadum Party, is set to arrive in Erbil on Thursday for a series of high-level meetings with Kurdistan Region leaders focused on Iraqi political developments, regional dynamics, and relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
Al-Halbousi will land at Erbil International Airport on Thursday morning, where he will be received by a senior delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), according to Kurdistan24 reporter Hoshmand Sadiq.
The welcoming delegation includs Hoshyar Zebari, Reber Ahmed, Omed Khoshnaw, and several other senior KDP officials.
During his visit, al-Halbousi is scheduled to hold separate meetings with President Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
His office had previously confirmed that he is also expected to meet Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani.
According to Halbousi's office, he is accompanied by Ahmed Mazhar, head of the Taqadum bloc in the Iraqi parliament; Mohammed Tamim, Iraq's Minister of Industry; and Khalid Battal, a senior Taqadum Party official.
The discussions are expected to focus on the evolving political and security landscape in Iraq and the wider region, bilateral relations between the KDP and the Taqadum Party, and efforts to strengthen cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad.
The agenda is also expected to include Iraq's ongoing national anti-corruption campaign and the completion of Prime Minister Ali Zaidi's cabinet, with several ministerial positions still awaiting confirmation through the swearing-in process.
Sources further indicate that the KDP is working to expand its engagement with a broad range of Iraqi political forces.
As part of that effort, KDP's senior Politburo memeber Hoshyar Zebari has been tasked with leading initiatives to rebuild and strengthen ties with influential Iraqi parties, particularly those that play a significant role in shaping relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in Baghdad.
