Israel Targets Iran's Energy Infrastructure as Israeli Airstrikes Hit Fuel Depots, Refineries in Tehran
Israeli forces launched airstrikes on several fuel depots and oil refining facilities in Tehran, targeting strategic reserves used by the Iranian government, marking a new phase in the ongoing conflict between Israel, United States, and Iran that began in late February. Israeli officials said the strikes aimed to pressure Tehran by threatening its ability to supply basic necessities to citizens. Iranian media reported powerful explosions across the capital, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps retaliated with missile strikes on Israel’s Haifa refinery.
The attacks targeted five oil facilities in and around Tehran, killing four people and damaging depots and petroleum transport centers. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that Iran would retaliate if neighboring countries were used as bases for attacks but emphasized that Tehran does not seek conflict with other states. Civilian casualties inside Iran have risen, with at least 926 killed and roughly 6,000 wounded.
The strikes coincided with warnings from Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf that ongoing hostilities threaten Iran’s oil production and exports, with potential global price spikes. U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed threats from Iranian official Ali Larijani, claiming Iran’s military capabilities had been largely neutralized. The operations represent an escalation in military pressure targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure while the regional conflict continues.
