ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says he plans on playing for “many, many more years” after he became the top goalscorer in football history on Wednesday.

Ronaldo’s 760th career goal for club and country came in Juventus’ 2-0 win against Napoli in the Italian Super Cup on Wednesday.

With that strike, the 35-year-old surpassed Josef Bican of the Czech Republic (759) and Brazilian legend Pele (757) in the all-time men’s goalscoring list. Lionel Messi, one of Ronaldo’s main rivals, sits in fifth with 719 goals.

According to Opta, which records football statistics, of the 760 official goals the Portuguese forward scored, 450 came during his time at Real Madrid, 118 for Manchester United, 102 for the Portugal national team, 85 for his current club Juventus, and five for Sporting Lisbon where he began his career. He scored 488 with his right foot, 139 with his left, 131 with his head, and two via other body parts.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s most prolific scoring season came in 2011/12 when he netted 69 times for Real Madrid in all competitions.

In recent comments to the press, Ronaldo shared his “dream” of winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and said as long as he stays fit, he will continue to play the sport.

“I feel still good, sharp and in a good moment in my life. I hope to play many, many years more, but you never know. This is football, we don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow [sic].”
