ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – An artist based in the Kurdistan Region’s Sulaimani city looks to use his art to bring to life Kurdish suffering throughout history and their struggle for freedom.

“The inspiration of my work comes from the tragic history of the Kurds, especially the Kurdish exoduses throughout history,” Anjam Abraham, a fine arts student in Sulaimani, told Kurdistan 24 in an interview Sunday.

Abraham explained that the “plain graphite,” pencil-drawn sketches of his art project aim to reflect the brutal reality Kurds faced and their struggles. The drawings are on 15 by 20-centimeter paper.

“My aim with this project was to briefly bring to life the Kurdish exoduses and illustrate them as realistic as possible and in a fashion that is akin to telling a tale,” Abraham said. He added that “each portrait is a continuation of the other.”
