This year’s assembly, running from May 27 to June 1, 2024, centers around the theme: "All for Health, Health for All."
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Health Saman Barzanji is set to attend the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) today, marking a significant participation by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in this vital global health forum.
The KRG delegation will join Health Ministers, Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives of Countries to the United Nations, and senior officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva.
The World Health Assembly, the WHO's primary decision-making body, consists of 194 Member States. Each year, typically in May, delegates from these Member States convene to set the Organization’s priorities and policies.
This year’s assembly, running from May 27 to June 1, 2024, centers around the theme: "All for Health, Health for All."
The WHA serves as a platform where country delegates decide on health goals and strategies that will guide both their national public health efforts and the WHO Secretariat's initiatives.
It also provides a forum for reporting on the progress of previously established work areas, evaluating achievements, and determining strategies to address any remaining gaps.
Dedicated to ensuring the well-being of all people through scientific guidance, the WHO leads global efforts to provide everyone with an equal opportunity for a safe and healthy life.
Since its establishment in 1948, the WHO has been the United Nations’ specialized health agency, connecting nations, partners, and communities in promoting the highest attainable standard of health for all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, gender, political belief, economic, or social condition.
The KRG’s participation in this assembly underscores its commitment to enhancing public health standards and collaborating on global health initiatives.
The Kurdistan Region's Minister of Health will engage in discussions and decision-making processes that aim to advance global health and well-being, reflecting the theme of this year’s assembly: "All for Health, Health for All."
