Foundation stones laid for cancer hospital, artificial kidney center in Duhok

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A significant step towards enhancing healthcare services in the Kurdistan Region was taken on Thursday as the foundation stones were laid for a 160-bed cancer hospital and an artificial kidney center in Duhok.
The ceremony was attended by Saman Barzanji, the Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Health, Ali Tatar, the Governor of Duhok, along with other government officials and healthcare professionals.
The 160-bed cancer hospital, set to be built using modern and advanced technology, will offer comprehensive treatment, surgery, and diagnostic services for cancer patients in Duhok.
Meanwhile, the artificial kidney center will provide dialysis services to patients in need. The center will have a capacity of 60 beds and is expected to alleviate the burden on existing healthcare facilities.
Dr. Afrasiab Musa, the Director General of Health in Duhok, emphasized the importance of expanding healthcare services to ensure that citizens have access to quality treatment without the need to travel to other cities. He highlighted the efforts made to establish health clinics and hospitals in various districts, equipped with qualified personnel and medical equipment.
The Shiladze hospital, which will be constructed at a cost of $43 million, will serve the Amedi region. The hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and will offer surgical services and patient admissions.
The cancer hospital project involves renovating the Duhok emergency hospital and dedicating it to cancer patients. The hospital will feature an advanced laboratory and a specialized section for children with cancer.
